A Tribute to Foundation Board Member and Friend John Beck
It is with great sadness that we share news of the passing of John Beck, board member with The Blazer Foundation, a great friend and well respected member of our Rockford community. While our hearts are broken and grieving the loss of our dear friend and colleague, he is remembered in such a great, positive light and will leave behind an incredible legacy.
John truly believed in the mission of The Blazer Foundation, to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities. He has been a part of The Blazer Foundation board since it became a charitable Foundation in 2008. John was passionate about and will leave a legacy for the work he did as a relentless advocate for accessibility for thousands of children and adults as an expert in the advancement of the Americans with Disabilities Act. His knowledge and unending passion to follow the Foundation’s mission has been invaluable and has helped pave the way for a better understanding of accessibility. John was intelligent, compassionate, hardworking, and genuinely cared about the individuals he worked with and fought for. He always made sure everyone had a voice and that everyone felt heard and appreciated, no matter who you were.
John also served 19 years as Rockford’s 12th Ward Alderman and was the Arts, Events and Recreation Project Manager at the Rockford Park District for 13 years. John was involved in many aspects of the Rockford community and held seats on multiple boards throughout the community.
Thank you John Beck for your commitment and service to The Blazer Foundation board and to our Rockford community and for the many lives that have been touched because of you. We are keeping John’s wife, Sandra in our thoughts and prayers.
